Urban environments face a wide variety of challenges, ranging from dangerous heat waves and high levels of air pollution, that can be further exacerbated by climate change. Led by Ken Davis at Penn State, the Baltimore Social-Environmental Collective is part of the U.S. Department of Energy Urban Integrated Field Program that focuses on better understanding how climate change will impact the built and natural environments of cities in the U.S. Focusing their research in Baltimore, will focus on modeling the urban atmospheric boundary layer, which plays a crucial role on Earth’s overall climate and air quality, specifically on how the urban environment affects this boundary and how it changes spatially.
